Therapy Dog Tip of the Day: Look
👀
I learned “Look” in my training classes. It means look into momma’s eyes; momma uses it to make sure I’m paying attention to her (‘cause sometimes I get distracted😄).
🐶
Momma says that it’s also very handy when she wants to get a cute pic of a certain doggo 😊
🎉
🐕 Here’s a fun game to teach “Look”:
I sit and momma stands in front of me. She’s got yummy treats tucked into both of her hands. She puts her arms out like an airplane (yeah, she looks silly😄) and says “Look”. Now, I knows she’s got treats ‘cause I can smell them – so I wants to look at her hands. But when I look at her – even for the slightest instance – I gets a treat from one of her hands. The fun part is that I don’t know which hand it’s coming from! When I get this part down, momma makes the time I have to look at her before getting a treat longer, sometimes it’s 3 seconds, sometimes it’s 8 seconds, then back to 5 seconds…. She builds up and she switches it around. I never know when I’m gonna get my treat, but I do know that I’ll get it eventually as long as I keep looking at momma.
